“Lead the people in generating household income” – President Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has urged the leaders in Busoga Sub-Region to assist wananchi in the area towards enhancing household incomes.

“Other issues get better and easily sorted out once the primary issue of household income is addressed”, the President said.

Mr. Museveni was yesterday meeting a delegation of over 200 National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizers hailing the districts of Busoga Sub-Region who called on him at State House, Entebbe. The delegation also included Members of Parliament from the Sub-Region. The Sub-Region comprises the districts of Jinja, Iganga, Namutumba, Kaliro, Kamuli, Mayuge, Bugiri, Buyende, Luuka and Namayingo

The President noted that Jinja, the second largest City in Uganda, and is based in Busoga Sub-Region, has attracted a lot of people that engaged in a diversity employment opportunities and business. He said this had created a big market for every product produced in the Busoga sub region. He, therefore, appealed to the people of the sub-region to appreciate and respect purchasers of their products as well as the numerous entrepreneurs found in the area because, he stressed, they are crucial to the operations of the local as well as the national economy.

Mr. Museveni told the delegation that the Movement Government has conscientiously put a lot of effort in the promotion of services through the provision of quality education so that as many Ugandans as possible can strive to get educated so that they are empowered to fit into the dynamics of the present modern world. He added that the development of the other infrastructure is among the vital components that the Government is already addressing. He called on the people of Busoga in particular and of Uganda at large to ensure social discipline in order to encourage the enhancement of individuals and families that value and appreciate the ideals of self sustenance.

The President asked cadres in Busoga Sub-Region to launch a Savings and Credit Co-operative Organization (SACCO) to which he pledged with the necessary seed funds. He also called on the Iganga district-based members of Kityerera Forest Veterans, to start their SACCO and promised to avail funding to their group.

President Museveni, who is also the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement, welcomed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Co-coordinator for Bubwere in Iganga district, Mr. Ronald Wako, who crossed to NRM. Mr. Wako pledged to attract more youth to NRM.
