President Yoweri Museveni has called upon Christians to exploit the prevailing peace and security to fight poverty in their homes and promote Uganda’s economic development. The President was speaking during a fundraising function at St. Charles Lwanga Bubaare Catholic Parish in Ibanda district where he also made a contribution of Shs 50,000,000 towards the completion of the Church buildings. He called upon other guests and Christians of good will to contribute generously towards the church project. Bubaare Catholic Church was started in 1930 as a sub-county centre and was later elevated to a centre in the 1970s under the Ibanda Parish, Kagongo in 2004. The President applauded the Catholic population here for their spirited fight to develop the church and build the temple of God. He called upon them to encourage their followers to fight poverty. “I encourage the congregation present to embrace prosperity for all through NAADS programme and gain the necessary knowledge and information to help transform the standard of living in the homes through improved incomes.,” he said.
Commenting on infrastructure development, the president emphasized that the Kampala-Katuna, Kazo, Ibanda, Kamwenge and Fort Portal roads are yet to be fixed to the required standards so as to ease the transportation of goods and services from the different areas within the country.
The President called upon members of parliament and other responsible officials to always guard against the current social evils and injustices such as child sacrifice, rape, defilement and corruption among others, adding that such offenders should not be granted bail.
Earlier, the chairperson of the district Mr. Kajwangye commended the President hailed the president for supporting the people of Bubaare.
Both retired bishops Paul Bakyenga and John Baptist Kakubi celebrated holy mass that preceded the fundraising ceremony.
Also present were the Minister of State for Works and Transport Eng. John Byabagambi, the Hon. Member of parliament for Ibanda North Guma Gumisiriza, the Woman member of parliament Margaret Kiboijana and the woman member of parliament for Mbarara district Emma Boona attended.
