President Yoweri Museveni has said government welcomes Public Private Partnerships in the energy sector, adding that the number one priority for Uganda is affordable electricity to drive development through industrialization.
The President was yesterday meeting George Percy, the Managing Director of Gulf Geothermal Ltd, a United Kingdom based company who called on him at his upcountry home in Kisozi, Gomba district.
The President welcomed the investor and assured his company of a good and conducive investment climate in Uganda.
During the meeting Mr. Percy expressed his company’s interest to invest in geothermal exploration and electricity generation in Uganda. He said that Gulf geothermal Ltd had a lot of experience in the sector and had undertaken a number of projects in the North East of England and along the East African rift valley and were interested in undertaking thermal exploration and electricity in Uganda utilizing the country’s big thermal energy potential which would generate cheap and affordable electricity.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Energy Engineer Irene Muloni and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Energy Mr. Kabagambe Kariisa.
