President Museveni commissions Presidential initiative of organic farming.

President Yoweri Museveni has said that household income is the crucial in the advancement of the development process.

The President was speaking at the launching of the Presidential Initiative for Organic Farming for Youth in Busoga Sub-Region. The ceremony took place yesterday at the site of the Project for Mushroom Growing in Kigulu North Constituency, Iganga District Busoga Sub-Region in Eastern Uganda. The project also promotes the cultivation of other vegetables as well as poultry activities.

Mr. Museveni commended the youth for their efforts in activities and programmes that aim at the enhancement of their income. He was pleased to note that the youth from Busoga Sub-Region had learnt a lot from their recent tour of Kiruhuura District adding that this was effectively shown by their putting into practice most of what they had observed during their tour especially in the agro-based ventures.

The President pledged a donation of UGX10 million as working capital for the Rural Agro-Processing and Trainers’ Association (RAPTA) adding that he would further assist youth associations at the constituency level. Mr. Museveni, at this juncture, announced a donation of 4 frezian cows for the Iganga-based Art Base youth group.

The President gave assurances that all sub-counties would be provided with value addition machines for various agro-products. He was pleased to note that the machines are being locally fabricated. He said the NRM Government is committed to assisting entrepreneurs in the private sector. He promised provision of piped water to residents of Kigulu village who live around the mushroom project.

Iganga District Youth Chairman, Mr. Bakari Nyende, lauded the President for the UGX20 million donation to the Busoga youth in every sub-county through NAADS.
