President receives DRC leader Joseph Kabila

President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who paid a courtesy call on him today in the morning at State House, Nakasero before leaving for home.

The meeting was attended by officials from the 2 countries that included the State Minister for International Affairs, Mr. Henry Okello Oryem.

The DRC leader was in Uganda to attend a 2-day Summit of the leaders of International Conference on the Great Lakes’ Region (ICGLR) that ended in Kampala yesterday.

The Kampala Summit evolved on the security situation in Eastern DRC with the aim of complete stopping of the four-month long fighting there to allow for the consolidation of peace, security and stability. The volatile situation there has seen an upsurge of hundreds of DRC refugees that have taken shelter in Uganda.

Member countries of the ICGLR are Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the DRC, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
