East African Inter-Parliamentary Sports Tournament

State House Uganda - NewsState House Uganda - News President Museveni graces East African Inter-Parliamentary Sports Tournament - Juggles the ball and demonstrates football skills to East Africa's Members of Parliament including the East African Legislative Assembly(EALA)

President Yoweri Museveni graced the finals of the East African Inter-parliamentary games at Mandela National Stadium Namboole, yesterday. The President who was clad in his yellow sports attire marched in an athletic manner into Namboole Stadium where Parliamentary teams from East African countries of Kenya Tanzania,Rwanda,Burundi and Uganda have been tussling it out in the games of netball for the ladies and football for the men.

The Tanzanian Parliamentary net ball team beat the Ugandan side by 2 to 1 and the Uganda members of Parliament foot ball team captained by Hon. Patrick Nsanja who represents Kayunga beat the East African Legislators by 3 goals to Nil.

President Museveni on arrival at Mandela Stadium interacted with members of various teams with whom he exchanged pleasantries and thanked them for coming to attend the games that run from the 8th of December.

Before kick off between the Uganda Parliamentary team and the EALA team, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the late former President of the Republic of South Africa and a renowned freedom fighter Nelson Madiba Mandela.

President Museveni, thereafter, exhibited his foot ball skills by juggling the ball several times and kicking it high in the air amid ululation and cheering from members of Parliament from the East African countries.

He was received at Mandela Stadium by the Speaker of
EALA the Rt.Hon. Margret Zziwa, the Speaker of Uganda's Parliament the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and the Minister of State for the Youth Hon.Kibuule among others

.President Museveni was a footballer during his school days. He is known to wake early and walk long distances in the morning. His staff, many of who are much younger, are amazed by his level of fitness and sharp memory. The President chairs several meetings a day, speaks off-the-cuff, otherwise, drafts own speeches full of detail, places and past dates without referring to his other literally works and attends to all Government business, regional matters, steers the National Resistance Movement, directs the progress of our country and executes all Presidential duties 24/7 all year through.

All the years he has struggled for freedom and prosperity of Africans, President Museveni has never taken holiday. A renown workaholic, the President grazes his cattle when he goes to his village homes in Kisozi and Rwakitura then holds meetings that usually end late.

Yesterday he delivered a lecture on integration to Kenya National Defense College students who paid a courtesy call on him at State House Nakasero. He held a meeting with a ship-building company from the Netherlands who will construct a shipyard in Jinja , construct vessels to carry cargo across Lake Victoria starting with the Portbell -Mwanza route, several Government meetings before heading to Mandela stadium in Namboole.
