President Yoweri Museveni has received and held a meeting with Dr. Rein Zeeman who is President of Stitching Interplast, Holland.
The meeting took place yesterday at State House, Entebbe and was attended by Ministry of Health and Mulago Hospital officials.
Dr. Zeeman is also an Honorable Senior Consultant for Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.
Stitching Interplast Holland specializes in charitable and humanitarian services that deal with reconstructive surgery for children and young adults with cleft lips and burn-related deformities in developing countries.
The organizations’ services are offered free of charge.
President Museveni and the surgeon discussed issues related to the best ways of boosting the Burns and Plastic Surgery Institute in Mulago Hospital.
Dr. Zeeman informed the President that about 60 percent of the burns experienced in the community can be prevented through sensitization of the people.
Every year, Stichting Interplast Holland dispatches a number of teams of experienced Dutch reconstructive plastic surgeons, operating theatre assistants and anesthetists on missions that are aimed at reconstructive plastic surgeries.
Interplast Holland began in 1991 and is at the moment active in Uganda, Yemen, Nigeria, Rwanda and Indonesia.
Teams were also dispatched to Vietnam, India and Pakistan in the 1990s, among other places.
