Entebbe Express Highway Construction Starts, president assured of quick completion

President Yoweri Museveni has received strong assurance from the Chairman and President of China Communications Construction Group Mr. Chen Fenjian of the timely completion of Entebbe Express Highway whose construction has started.

Mr. Chen Fenjian, who is also the President of CCC, made the assurance today when he paid a courtesy call on the President at State House Entebbe, according to the President’s Special Assistant for Communications, Ms Sarah Kagingo.

Mr. Chen informed President Museveni of his group's interest to invest in cement production in Karamoja sub-region, construction of the railway line in Uganda and building of Kampala to Jinja high way.

The President welcomed Mr. Chen and his group to Uganda to invest in areas of interest.

He told his guest that in-order to favourably compete in the market; the government has prioritised the development of electricity, construction of roads, railway lines and ICT that greatly impact on the cost of doing business.

"You cannot compete when you don't have enough electricity, a manufacturer needs to get products that are competitive in the market in terms of price and quality," he told his guest.

Meanwhile, President Museveni met and held talks with the Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM), Mr. Li Ruogu, who paid a courtesy call on him at State House Entebbe.

The President and guest, discussed construction of Karuma and Isimba hydro power stations that are supported by EXIM Bank.

The President told Exim Bank Executives that energy is key to industrial development and that lower tariff of energy would lower business costs.

Government of Uganda's budget this financial year is focused on infrastructure development.
