President Museveni discusses geothermal power generation with Kenyan group

President Museveni this afternoon met Directors of Geothermal Drilling Systems International (GDSI) at his country home in Rwakitura.

GDSI, a Kenyan based company was led by Mr. Amos Njogo, one of the directors.

Other directors include Mr. Bob N. Michuki and Paul M. Murethi.

Mr. Njogo informed the President that Kenya produces 400MW of power from geothermal energy at a cost of 0.82cts/KW to Kenya Power and Lighting.

President Museveni told the group that Uganda has several sites of Geothermal energy including Anaka, Kibiro, Buranga in Bundibugyo district and Kasenyi.

"Geothermal energy is present everywhere beneath the earth's surface, although the best resources are concentrated in regions of active volcanoes like in the rift valley,” he said.

The meeting also discussed the potential of adding value to the leather industry in the East African region.

Present at the meeting was Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, and Minister of State for Investment, Ajedra Gabriel.
