President directs cabinet to dissolve NAADS over non-performance

Monday 26th May 2014

President Yoweri Museveni has directed Cabinet to dissolve NAADS due non-performance and that the funds which were hitherto allocated to the project be utilized to enhance agro based production.

The President was yesterday addressing a delegation of 550 Central Region NRM youth leaders led by the Central Region Youth M.P. Patrick Nakabale at State House, Entebbe when he met.

“I have directed Cabinet to dissolve NAADS. This is due to the mismanagement of funds. The veterans project led by the UPDF officers has demonstrated exceptional delivery of services to the intended beneficiaries which is contrary to the fleecing practice of NAADS officials,” he said.

The President condemned the NAADS administration for spending Shs 24bn that government allocated to the project in Buganda region (Central Uganda) without any sign of value for money on the ground.

He assured the gathering that the shortcomings would be addressed.

He commended the UPDF officers for their exemplary work within the veterans’ project.

President Museveni said that when the NRM Government came to power, the tax base was very small which led to small revenue collections.

He said that since the revenue collections have increased, government has the capacity to deliver more services to the people.

He pledged to publish the funds which the Central Government has released to the Districts over the years as part of the government policy of ensuring transparency and effective delivery of essential services.

He said that he would invite the Central Region Youth MP and the District Youth Chairmen to chart a way forward in order to enable the youth to engage in productive ventures.

He added that a system would be established to ensure the proper management of the youth fund.

He strongly criticized some of the youth who dislike work.

President Museveni said that once government launches the drilling of oil in the Albertine region, more revenue will be generated.

He added that more minerals in various parts of the country would be exploited for the benefit of the people and that with effect from July 2014 more funds would be released to boost youth projects.

“I challenged the youth to be transparent and utilize well, the funds they receive. Youth leaders should to work hard and set good examples for the rest of their colleagues,” he said.

The Youth MP Patrick Nakabale presented their memorandum to the President and saluted him for launching the Youth development fund and for his visionary leadership.

They declared their unwavering support and pledged their loyalty to President Museveni and the NRM.

They said that they fully support the Kyankwanzi declaration which recognises him as the sole NRM Presidential candidate during the 2016 elections.
