President Museveni arrives in Addis for IGAD meeting

President Yoweri Museveni is in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, where is expected to join other regional leaders for the 28th Summit of Heads of State and Government Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) with the crisis in South Sudan top on the agenda.

The President was received on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport this afternoon by Senior Ethiopian Government officials. Others at the airport to receive him included State Minister for International Affairs, Mr. Henry Okello Oryem and Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Mull Katende.

According to reports, President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and his former Deputy, Riek Machar, are expected to meet on the sidelines of the Summit to discuss their country’s 10-month civil conflict. The two are expected to address the question of what powers the proposed Prime Minister would have in the South Sudanese transitional government.

President Museveni was earlier seen off at Entebbe International Airport this morning by the Commander of Air Forces, General Sam Turyagyenda, the Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura and the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.
