“Uganda is set to compete with the US and UK, leading world milk producers. If you have anything to do with milk, you have come at the right time and right place and you have got the right person,’’

President Yoweri Museveni has disclosed that Uganda is targeting 51 billion litres of milk per annum in 20 years time. He said that the country is doing well in the sector of milk production because most farmers have adopted scientific methods of animal keeping. He said that currently Uganda’s annual milk production stands at 1.9 billion litres compared to 20 years ago when national milk output was minimal.

According to data released by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the United States of America is the world leader in milk production with a niche of 14.6 percent followed by the United Kingdom at 10 percent of the total global production.

“Uganda is set to compete with the US and UK, leading world milk producers. If you have anything to do with milk, you have come at the right time and right place and you have got the right person,’’ said President Museveni who was meeting with officials from British-based Alvan Blanch Development Company Ltd, led by their Managing Director, Mr. Andrew Blanch, who called on him this morning at State House Nakasero.

The company’s operations in Uganda, in conjunction with the World Food Programme, include efforts geared at the reduction of post harvest losses through installation maize drying and cleaning plants in strategic locations throughout the country to enable farmers bring their grain crops for proper cleaning and drying.

The company deals in manufacturing and project engineering with a focus on the global market specializing in designing, production and supply of quality machines and their integrated systems for the primary and secondary processing of agricultural produce and waste materials.

Currently, the company has major business concerns in Eastern and Southern Africa having been in existence for 60 years with exports to over 100 countries.
