President meets Russian & South African hydro-power constructors

President Yoweri Museveni has met and held talks with a delegation of an International Consortium of Companies from Russia and South Africa that have been assigned to undertake the refurbishment and up-grading of the Nalubaale Hydro-Power Station and construction of Kiira 2 Hydro-Power Station in Jinja. The meeting took place this afternoon at State House, Nakasero.
The Russian based energy company – Gidroenergostroy, along with Bonang Power and Energy Ltd from South Africa, supported by the local Uganda Company – Snow Ways Limited – are expected to establish additional generating capacity of 200 to 300 MW from Kiira 2 Hdro-Power Station as well as securing the long term sustainable operation of Nalubaale Hydro-Power Station with increased capacity, among others.
The delegation informed President Museveni that the project is expected to be completed in 3 years.
The consortium consists of both Construction and design Companies having at least 80 years of activity in the sector dealing with the designing, construction and refurbishment of different types of structures, dams, waterways’ canals and hydro power stations, among other undertakings.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Privatization, Mr. Aston Kajara.
